How to Choose the Right Phone Mount for Your Car

A phone mount sounds like a small purchase until you’re the one juggling a handset on your lap at a roundabout. Here’s what actually matters when picking one.

Suction mounts are convenient but weaken over time, especially on textured dashboards or in hot cars left in direct sun. Vent clips and CD-slot mounts tend to hold more reliably and don’t leave marks on the windscreen.

Check the clamp width before buying – most modern phones with a case need at least 8-9cm of grip. A mount that’s too narrow will only fit your phone naked, which isn’t ideal if you drop it often.

Look for adjustable arms rather than fixed ball joints if you switch between portrait and landscape navigation apps. It’s a small detail but makes a real difference on longer trips.

Finally, cheap mounts tend to vibrate loose on rough roads. Spend a little more on one with a locking mechanism, and it’ll outlast three budget versions.
